FAVORITES - BP 14

With the Spring semester coming to an end, we were asked to think about an object, space, building, and place that resonates with us the most.  More than one of each came to my mind but I have chosen the ones that I believe are the most meaningful.

Object:
CAMEO
My object of choice is the Cameo.  It is a carving on a conch shell and dates back to the Renaissance time period, one of my favorite periods in architecture.  The cameo has a personal importance to me because my grand mother has collected them and I have always thought they were beautiful.  Throughout the years I have collected them and I wear one of the rings everyday and it is the one object I get complimented on the most!

Space:
TANGLEWOOD FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS

The tanglewood festival of lights is an event that happens before christmas in Winston-Salem every year.  People drive their cars (extremely slow) for about two miles and pass the amazing christmas lights.  It is one of the happiest place I have been and our family has attended every year.  Tanglewood itself is one of my favorite places and has several parks, trails, soccer fields, and holds many events, but the Festival of Lights is always a spectacular sight and the best place to be.

Building:
VERSAILLES- HALL OF MIRRORS

I chose Versailles as my building of choice at first because I was trying to remember the most spectacular building I had been in.  The Palace of Versailles is beautiful to me altogether, but the particular hall of mirrors is incredible.  There are other buildings that I have not personally been to that I believe I could possibly enjoy more but I think to really understand the true sense of a building you have to actually be there and see it and feel it for yourself.  Although I don't think buildings should always be so expensive, I enjoy baroque like design that is overcrowded and has many elements in the design, and the Versailles is the perfect place for that.

Place:
CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA

Charleston, South Carolina is by far my favorite place to me.  It has sentimental value in that our family meets at the beach their for a week every summer, but also it has the perfect feel and is beautiful.  I love the old Southern personality it has, and the old buildings.  I enjoy the cobble stone streets and the amazing shopping downtown where one can walk for miles on Queen Street and never run out of cute boutiques.  I love the beaches and the restaurants and the bike paths and the several areas where people can sit on swings or hang out by the river.  In my opinion, Charleston is the perfect place.
