GOOD DESIGN FOR ALL -BP 12

Casa Milla, designed by Antonio Gaudi is an example of "Good design for all" in my opinion.
I believe this because it was designed during the Arts and Crafts Movement, where designers were in search for authentic and meaningful styles.  The Arts and Crafts Movement wasn't completely anti industrial, nor were they completely anti modern.  I think that Antonio Gaudi's works are both modern and traditional at the same time.  He looks back towards Spanish traditional styles for his inspiration, yet he is creating buildings that are innovative and beautiful.  Also, he is not using the machine in creating completely new buildings, but sometimes renovates buildings instead like the Casa Batllo.

Casa Milla: Showing CURVES.  There is also Baroque quality to his style.

Another reason why I think Casa Milla represents "Good Design for All" is because it is ART.  The building itself has structures and forms that are so similar to ART that I barely look at it as a building. rather than a piece of artwork.

Antonio Gaudi used stained glass in fragments as ways for showing color in several of his buildings.
Sculptural structures located on the roof.  Antonio Gaudi said that FORM was actually the last of his priorities, even though the several sculptural aspects of his buildings would cause one to believe it was his main purpose or theme in design.
Casa Milla Interior:  Even the Interior of the building is ART, with his use of curves, colors and altered shapes.

In my opinion, good design for all is creating a building or object or space that incorporates function AND form, as well as commodity, firmness, and delight.  However, the delight of the building may differ in everyones opinion depending on if it's there style or not.  I do not think that a designer should limit themselves when trying to find a design that would flatter everyones tastes.  Good design is when the designer is able to follow their own tastes and produce something extraordinary because it is TRUE to their own style.
