Thomas Day Thumbnails

Proposed Timeline

Thomas Day is known for his intricate wood work and in his wood work he often shows curves and scrolls.  Our group is planning on incorporating much of that as a concept throughout the exhibition.  In this series of thumbnails I am showing where some of this pattern will occur.

Above is a sketch of some of the graphics that may go on the walls of the exhibition.  We plan to have a timeline wrapped around three of the walls that will allow the guests to have an idea of when certain artifacts and certain events happened in his life.  So the time line will not look so boring, we plan to use his scroll-like graphics as a consistent design.

Exhibit Floor Plan

Above is a quick floor plan of the lobby space.  The two large swirls in the drawing are an idea of what the graphics may look like on the floor.  We want these graphics on the floor to guide people to the back as well as play in with the rest of the room.  Our group also wanted two of them in order to show symmetry because that is another one of Thomas Day's wooden characteristics.

Poster Template

In the floor plan one can see that we have six slanted lines.  Those lines are supposed to be large hanging posters that will include a mixture of images of the artifact as well as background information on it.  The timeline may also run along the six posters.  Above is an example of my idea of what the template for the posters could look like.  Although this is definitely open to change, I think the graphics should be included on the template.  If they swirls are shown on the posters, floor, and wall I think the guests will be able to understand the detail of his woodwork.
